Accounting Specialist

The Accounting Specialist will be involved with a multitude of accounting activities, working in-person at our Thornhill office. This position will focus on accounts receivable and payable, expense reimbursement, bank and credit card reconciliations for multiple entities operating in multiple provinces. The duties will rapidly expand to other accounting functions. This professional must be a strong team player and be willing to perform both higher and lower level tasks requiring different experience and skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage all forms of financial accounts by maintaining accurate and complete records, using documents to verify and process transactions.
• Spot errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency and spending.
• Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure, including inter company transactions and reconciling banks, credit cards and sub-ledgers to general ledger account balances.
• Perform detailed accounting requiring a strong knowledge of accounting theory and principles.
• Assist in the preparation of financial statements.
• Prepare special reports utilizing excel and other reporting tools.
• Participate as a team member and backup for other team members.

Qualifications

• Proven work experience as an Accounting Specialist or similar position.
• 5+ years of accounting experience and advanced hands-on computer skills in accounting software (primarily Sage 300 ERP).
• Accuracy and attention to detail while multitasking under tight deadlines.
• Must be flexible and adaptable and know how to prioritize workload.
• High level of critical and logical thinking with strong problem identification and exceptional problem solving skills.
• Ability to take initiative, learn quickly and dedicated and motivated to achieve high standards.
• Strong work ethics with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field.

Working Conditions

• Overtime as required to fulfill deadlines.
