Are you confused about the cloud? If so, you’re not alone. Many people talk about the cloud but don’t fully understand what it really means. Cloud computing is a great tool that can benefit your business, but first, you must understand what the cloud is.

In essence, the cloud is a storage space for data. All of your files, even your software can be stored on the cloud. Since all of this data is being stored in the cloud rather than on a hard drive, on a physical computer, you can have access to your information, anywhere, at any time. Take for instance, banking. There was a time when your financial data could only be accessed by physically going into the bank. With the cloud, you have access to your financial data online, and can access it anytime from any device.

A few myths about the cloud:

“The cloud is the same as the internet”.

False, the internet is the connection you use to access information online. The cloud is the storage space for that information.

“My information could get lost on the cloud”.

False, storing your information on the cloud is actually safer than storing it on your computer. The computer is vulnerable to viruses and data corruption, not to mention, a physical computer can be stolen. Cloud companies spend millions on security measures to protect the information stored there.

“The cloud is just a trend, it’s not here to stay”.

The cloud has been around for years already. Take for instance, internet banking. It began over 15 years ago and shows no signs of ever going away.

“Cloud software is really expensive”.

Cloud software is actually an affordable way to go. In many cases you only have to pay for what you use, and is often subscription based, where you pay a small amount monthly instead of a large amount upfront.

There are too many benefits of cloud computing it would be impossible to even name them all. The cloud allows you access to your data from anywhere, anytime. This then breaks the dependence on an office or computer which in turn creates freedom. The cloud decreases the stress of computing and allows you to use any device to access all of your business information, seamlessly and securely.
