Based on our experience assisting clients with the review of options, we created some Frequently Asked Questions and responses. This first of two blogs will focus on your data, where it is stored and the Canadian Privacy Act (PIPEDA). Our second blog will focus on questions about your data in the cloud and the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

FAQ: Using Cloud Accounting Software Hosted Internationally Part 1
BAASS Responds to Demand for Cloud Financial Applications
BAASS Business Solutions (BAASS), a leading technology consulting firm, announced an expanded partnership with Intacct, a leading provider of best-in-class cloud ERP software. As an Intacct Business Partner now covering Canada coast to coast, BAASS will sell, implement, support, and develop enhancements for Intacct’s award-winning cloud financial applications. BAASS, already a top Sage partner, is aligning with Intacct in response to increased demand for cloud computing-based applications from its prospects and clients.
“We’ve been helping clients choose, implement, and use the best software for their businesses for a long time. It is very clear that successful companies are increasingly interested in using a cloud-based financial system,” said Joseph Arnone, President of BAASS. “BAASS selected Intacct after carefully reviewing all other cloud financial systems on the market. Intacct stood out for its best--in-class cloud financial platform and adding it to our portfolio gives our clients the power to choose the system that best fits their needs and provides us with an opportunity to target several new industries.”
BAASS clients will benefit from the web-based dashboards, reporting, and business intelligence capabilities built into the Intacct system. Intacct provides a powerful set of analytics and reporting tools that empower users with real-time, accurate, and consistent visibility into financial and operational data. Glen Mund, BAASS Partner, added, “We like that Intacct is focused exclusively on financials, yet the robust and tightly integrated offering of third-party solutions provides the ultimate flexibility for our clients. We see cloud financials continuing to gain momentum in the market, and we expect to be one of Intacct’s go-to partners.”
“We continue to attract the highest level of firms to the Intacct Business Partner Program,” said Taylor Macdonald, vice-president of Channels for Intacct. “Canada is a growing market for Intacct and our partnership with BAASS will provide new opportunities to reach those potential customers. The BAASS team has an extensive background in ERP and financial software, which will be a huge benefit to our mutual clients. I look forward to working closely with BAASS for many years to come.”

Read More >Best of Breed Cloud Solution
For CFO's, controllers, and other accountant types, all in one solutions versus best of breed software is a well-established and long-running debate. Organizations are left to wonder whether they would be most successful choosing an all in one integrated solution from a single vendor, or using a combination of best-in-class products from several software vendors.
With Intacct, the choice is clear – gone are the days where an organization is able to meet all of their needs with one single software publisher. Intacct’s best of breed philosophy allows for easy integration, freedom of choice, and increased effectiveness.
The difficulty in using an all in one integrated solution arise when individual applications and module with the integrated solution do not contain sufficient features, not on par with competing best-of-breed applications, not fully integrated, with other applications in the suite, and do not offer consolidated reporting. Vendors are not typically good at focusing efforts in multiple areas and get stretched thin when required to manage multiple solutions of a all in one integrated solution. In addition, R&D money also gets spread thin across a wide range of priorities.
A major appeal with a best of breed approach is functionality and flexibility. Best of breed vendors provide significantly greater functionality, as well as easier deployments. These advantages can stem from a singular focus on a smaller set of features and the reliance of these vendors on customer success stories. As a result, best-in-class vendors often have a deeper understanding of their customer’s needs and pain points, and a dedication to guaranteeing a positive customer experience.
CPA.com recently published a whitepaper, “Match of the Century: Application Suites vs. Best-of-Breed Cloud,” discussing the pros and cons of all-in-one suites versus best-of-breed solutions. The content examines why the cloud has changed everything and gives best-of-breed solutions a compelling advantage over suites.

Why does it appear?
The can be several reasons why this message appears and it usually comes when there has been a change in the configuration of the system. This maybe as a result of an upgrade, or if the SQL password for the "sa" user has been changed, and the same change has not been affected in CRM.
